Muckhart Conservation Area
Muckhart is an historic highland cattle droving village dating from the 15th century. Rebuilt after being burnt by the Earl of Montrose in 1644, the oldest dated building is the inn of 1804 (above). The report by Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation recommending designation of the Muckhart Conservation Area included reproductions of historic postcards alongside photographs taken from the same viewpoints to show how little the townscape had change. Sketches were also used to demonstrate typical features important to the special character and appearance of the village, while historic map regression illustrated its development. Maps were also used to show listed buildings, open spaces, significant trees and views, and the proposed boundaries of the new conservation area.
