Drymen Conservation Area

The fine T-plan church dated 1771, said to be a meeting place for Rob Roy

Sited on a ridge, or druim, Drymen is the origin of the name Drummond, an historic and attractive Highland town which in the past was an important meeting place for cattle drovers; in 1767 its spacious green market place was the site of no less than eight annual fairs as well as a weekly cattle market. The town is associated with Rob Roy McGregor, and also the birthplace of Eric Liddell, the Olympic athlete whose story is told in the film 'Chariots of Fire'.

The conservation area appraisal of the Drymen conservation area carried out by Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation contributed to the creation of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the town being an important base for tourism and outdoor activities in the park area.
