The picturesque and historic village of Killearn on the foothills of the Campsie Fells enjoys magnificent views over Strathendrick and Loch Lomond. Nowadays part of the commuter belt of Glasgow with knock-on effects on the village in terms of local shops and amenities, its structure as a late 18th century feued village survives, with a number of unspoiled holiday cottages from the late 19th century. It also has some important relics of former industries, including a Victorian acqaduct. Our report on the conservation area included definitions of the different character-areas that make it up, recommendations for boundary extensions, identification of important structures, trees, hedges and views, and management recommendations to ensure that the special character of the village is preserved.
