Victorian Gate Lodge
This late Victorian gate lodge to a small Scottish estate was much too small to provide a modern home. The design concept developed by Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation added a stair tower to provide a central unifying feature, using typically Scottish detailing such as crow-stepped dormers, and a new porch closely reflecting the design of the existing. Blending new and old does not always require a 'contemporary' approach, and although the consultancy has also designed contrasting Modern style buildings, it is not prejudiced against the use of historic styles in such situations. The guiding principle should be the balance of visual interest and harmony. |
