Chapel at Kirkapol

The chapel at Kirkapol may date from the 8th century

The Isle of Tiree is the most westerly of the Inner Hebrides and this ruined ancient chapel may date from the 8th century. The conservation project for the Tiree Heritage Trust, in which Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation collaborated with Carruthers Conservation, included soft walltcapping using puddled clay and local turf, and careful repointing using lime based mortars. The preserved monument is now an important part of a pilgrimage trail comprising a number of early Christian sites.

The project also included the nearby ruined church.
