Church at Kirkapol

The church had severe structural problems

This ruined medieval church at Kirkapol on the Isle of Tiree, the most westerly of the Inner Hebrides. The conservation project, in which Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation collaborated with Carruthers Conservation, included archaeology and innovative structural interventions using specially formed stainless steel armatures to support the E wall over early burials that had undermined its foundations; 'soft' walltopping using puddled clay and local turf, and careful repointing using lime based mortars.

The project included the nearby ancient chapel.
