City of London
Many important historic buildings in the City of London, including barristers' chambers, offices, restaurants and halls, parking areas, courtyards and gardens, still do not have reasonable access for disabled people. We have helped many service providers to satisfy the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act by carrying out access audits and advising in access planning, the work usually including historic research to help identify 'conservation barriers' and ensure that proposals are sensitive to historic value. In some cases, we have gone on to design related alterations and improvements, such as wheelchair accessible toilets and access ramps. The work has helped to maintain and enhance business activities as well as preserving the unique historic character and appearance of some of the City of London's most picturesque areas.
