St Bride's Kirk
St Bride's Kirk, Old Blair has existed since at least 1134 and is documented since 1275/6, though it may well have been founded earlier, as it is sited on a mound and dedicated to a Celtic saint. The oldest visible part of the fabric is a memorial of 1579 and the most important feature is the vault where 'Bonnie Dundee', John Graham of Claverhouse, was buried with his armour, after his defeat at the nearby Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689. The church fell out of use in 1824 and is now a picturesque ruin in the hamlet of Old Blair, though the burial ground is still used. After preparing a condition report, Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation developed conservation proposals, advised on grants, obtained scheduled ancient monument consent and lead a conservation project including repointing and masonry repairs to ensure the preservation and safety of this historic Highland kirk for the enjoyment tourists and local people.
