Tullibody Old Bridge

Tullibody Old Bridge originally carried the main road from Stirling to Alloa over the River Deveron and is believed to have been constructed by Robert Spittal of Stirling in the early 16th century. The east arch was demolished by Kirkaldy of Grange in 1559 to prevent a French army crossing it, and Tobias Bauchop inserted iron ties in 1697. After it was replaced by an early 20th century metal bridge, it fell out of use and suffered 'long years of neglect' according to a government report in 1957. Extensive repairs were carried out in 1961, unfortunately using cement based mortars which caused acccelerated decay of the structure.

After Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation carried out a conservation audit of the bridge, which included archival research to establish its significance, anf following this advised in carrying out repairs. It is now back in use as part of the local cycle network.
