Granary Conversion

The historic farmhouse was refurbished Granary and cartsheds became offices

Neglected and derelict historic farm buildings that no longer meet the needs of modern industrialised farming practices are a major problem for conservationists, because alterations can so easily destroy their character.

Here, Robin Kent Architecture & Conservation advised on converting this Northumbrian farmhouse with adjoining barns and water mill, to form a new home and holiday cottages; and prepared proposals for converting the farm granary and cartshed to modern offices, as part of the mixed-use development. The design preserves the open character and fine timber roof trusses of the granary as a feature of the new offices, which have helped to breathe new life into the disused farm.
