Palladian Mansion

The central block of the mansion, now converted to flats

It is hard to believe that thirty years ago this Grade I listed Palladian mansion, designed in 1754-6 by the important architect James Paine (1716-89), was a ruin with trees growing out of some of the fine interiors, simply because of neglected maintenance. Now saved from loss and restored to use, it is divided into a number of private dwellings but still requires regular maintenance.

Over the past 10 years we have prepared two quinquennial reports to help the management company prioritise and plan maintenance, repairs and improvements to benefit the residents and ensure its conservation. In addition to repairs, the reports identified the need for further investigation of various defects and also improvements. We have also advised on specific repairs to masonry defects, roof leaks, rising dampness and boiler flues and ventilation. Working closely with the residents, we have helped to maintain a safe and healthy environment with modern standards of comfort and convenience, in an historic setting of the highest quality.
