Eglingham is a rural village on the ancient route between Wooler and Alnwick. A church is known here as early as 750 AD, though the present building may have been re-sited in the 12th century to serve the large local population during the medieval period. The village also had an important mill, while to the N is the designed landscape of Eglingham Hall. Our report on the conservation area recommended further research and extension of the boundaries, as well as defining the architectural and townscape character and recommending buildings for listing.
