Eglingham Conservation Area
Eglingham is a rural village on the ancient route between Wooler and Alnwick. A church is known here as early as 750 AD, though the present building may have been re-sited in the 12th century to serve the large local population during the medieval period. The village also had an important mill, while to the N is the designed landscape of Eglingham Hall. Our appraisal of Eglingham conservation area recommended further research and extension of the boundaries, defined its historic architectural and townscape character and recommended buildings for listing, to preserve the special character and appearance of the village, maintain property values and contribute to the sense of community.
