Lesbury Conservation Area

Lesbury Church dates from the Middle Ages and is pivotal to the layout of the village

Lesbury is sited beside the River Aln at an important historic crossing point, the centre of the village being the historic church in its ancient churchyard.

Our appraisal of Lesbury conservation area defined its historic and architectural character and made a number of recommendations, including commending some modern developments (below) which enhanced its traditional character, and identifying negative factors adversely affecting the character and appearance of the village. It also suggested a public realm audit and improving access and enjoyment of the historic riverside area, with its ancient stepping stone crossing, for residents and visitors.
