Newtown on the Moor Conservation Area
The hamlet of Newton on the Moor, an historic centre for lime burning, has grown little since it was established as a borough in 1249, though most of the houses date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Our appraisal of the Newtown on the Moor conservation area included archival historical research and assessed the different parts of the village which reflected its diverse history, and we carried out evaluations of setting, townscape and built form, key buildings, green spaces and trees, materials and colours, and special details, and views in and out in the usual way. We also made management recommendations including specific recommendations for negative and neutral areas, listed buildings and boundary changes, and advised in presentation and consultations, to ensure the conservation area continues to be preserved and enhanced to benefit residents.
