Airthrey Castle was designed by the famous Scottish architects Robert and James Adam in 1791, for Robert Haldane, and represents a late example of Adam's castellated designs. After it became the centrepiece of the new University of Stirling in 1966, it was adapted as teaching and office accommodation. We carried out a wheelchair movement study and advised on the design of access improvements to ensure a viable future for this important historic building.

The strongly symmetrical Adam design pays little attention to level access Using a standard wheelchair to test accessibility
