Gate Lodge

The entrance to the new lodge

We designed this new gate lodge to an historic estate in the Scottish Borders to reflect the style of a traditional Classical gate lodge, rather than merely replicating the previous Victorian lodge which had been demolished. The new lodge adjoins the surviving gateway and estate wall and is constructed using a high quality timber frame system faced with rendered and painted blockwork, and has a natural slate roof. A heat pump and heat exchanger provide heating, supplemented by a multi-fuel stove. Decking and large double glazed windows provide spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and river valley.
