Haltwhistle Conservation Area

The Centre of Britain Hotel

The Centre of Britain Hotel in the historic town of Haltwhistle is one of several urban bastles, defensible tower houses built in the town during the 15th century to resist Scottish mauraders.

Our conservation area character appraisal of Haltwhistle included historic research and identified several character sub-areas, recommending substantial boundary changes to ensure that the high quality of the conservation area could be preserved, enhancing the town for tourists and residents.
