Shedden Park Lodge
Shedden Park Lodge dates from 1852 and was erected at public expense in appreciation of the gift of Shedden Park to the town of Kelso the previous year by Mrs Robertson of Ednam House. The lodge is a simple but high quality Classical building and Category B listed. Shedden Park commemorates Robert Shedden, who was buried at Mazatian on the Pacific coast of Mexico in 1849 after sailing his yacht, the Nancy Dawson, in search of Sir John Franklin, the famous explorer lost in 1847 while searching for the North West Passage. Our report on the fine standstone masonry of the lodge showed that it required urgent conservation work to save it from accelerating decay due to vandalism, roof leaks and other defects, helping to inform repairs by the Council.
