The Temple Mount
Since its capture by Israel in 1967 the Temple Mount in Jerusalem has developed worldwide political and religious significance as the key to Middle Eastern peace negotiations. In addition to its symbolic and spiritual significance for the world's three major monotheistic religions, the Temple Mount has unique architectural and archaeological significance as the site of the largest and most important temple complex in the Ancient world, a important influence on the development of Western art and architecture.
After working as architect to the British School of Archaeology on and around the Temple Mount, Robin Kent maintains an active interest in the site, its biblical origins and history, ownership, and interpretation over time. As well as providing insights into the kinds of issues facing other World Heritage sites, the site illustrates the great importance of understanding the past as the foundation for future decision making.
