ProfileRobin Kent Architecture & Conservation aims to provide the best advice on the conservation and use of the architectural heritage, specialising in the conservation and restoration of scheduled ancient monuments, listed buildings and other historic buildings, and the design of new buildings in sensitive settings. In addition to conservation and design, our wide and varied workload includes the conversion and rehabilitation of redundant historic buildings to appropriate new uses, ruin stabilisation and presentation, the conservation of memorials and monuments, and extensions and alterations to historic buildings. We see historic building conservation as part of the whole spectrum of sustainability. We also carry out archival and technical research, building recording and condition surveys, access consultancy, historic buildings evaluations and conservation area appraisals. Founded in 1981 in North Kent, the consultancy moved to Bedford in 1984 and was re-established in Scotland in 1997. Incorporated as Robin Kent Limited in 2003, it is an RIAS Practice Member and an RIBA Chartered Practice. It is led by Robin Kent, a chartered architect accredited in conservation to the highest level in both England and Scotland, who is also a qualified health and safety co-ordinator. He has worked as a senior conservation architect with Historic Scotland and has over 20 years experience advising building owners about conservation and design. Link to CV. As a small specialist consultancy, we provide a personal, highly qualified service. We place the highest importance on communicating with and serving our clients' best interests and realising their ideas, bringing together tailor-made teams of experienced consultants and specialists to provide the best available advice. Working throughout Britain, with projects as far afield as Kent and the outer Hebrides, clients to date have included private owners and estates, national and local government and government agencies, professional and educational institutions, building preservation trusts and amenity societies, charities and churches. Our office is based in a Georgian town house in the outstanding conservation area of Duns, a Scottish Borders town about mid way between Edinburgh and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, within easy reach of the whole of central Scotland and the North of England and only a few hours by rail from London. |
